The classic proofreading examines grammar, spelling and sentence structure. Even the stylistic composition of the work is no longer the subject of the proofreading. In the editing, however, both a linguistic as well as content evaluation of the text takes place. Specifically, this means that the grammar and orthography tests are included, but the correction offered under this term includes much more. The work is also checked for the linguistic expression and the logic of the content, such as individual arguments or the red thread of the present remarks. The editing is appropriate even if a rough translation was indeed made correctly, but also still a fluent German must be transferred.
Why do you need proofreading and proofreading?
Proofreading and proofreading makes sense for the following reasons: Especially when several pages have to be written, it is perfectly normal that one often no longer sees one’s own spelling and grammatical mistakes. If customers who are already in employment, graduate studies, they may still have learned the old spelling. Especially if you focus on the content and have to write longer work, it is quite possible that one becomes uncertain when it comes to the question of whether you have really spelled each word correctly and each character has set correctly. With a copy-editing you are on the safe side. This applies even more to the proofreading. It is annoying, if the content of the work would have been rated “very good”, but word repetition and a bit ponderous expression are criticized. This is especially the case when it comes to little things that you have just not noticed because you have read and corrected the work too often. This also applies to mental leaps within an argument that was well known, but presupposed as known due to the intensive study of the respective topic. Final editing is especially useful if the work has to be written in a language that is not the mother tongue. This is especially true for customers with a migration background.
